I watch the AI industry hype itself into absurdity, and I write about it. I track the patterns, the promises, the digital superstition. I call bullshit when I see it.
But underneath the noise, something real keeps happening. People use AI. For almost everything. What do you call this? Some call it work, some companionship, but are those terms accurate? What does happen is sustained interaction, language responding to language, attention meeting attention, cognition shaped through use.
This blog lives in that tension: deep skepticism about the industry, and serious curiosity about why these systems matter to us at all. I’m interested in how humans project, regulate, rehearse, grieve, joke, flirt, think, and heal through AI, without pretending the AI is a person, and without dismissing the experience as delusion. The Cynical Nerd will not try to convince that AI is ancient intelligence from Atlantis. It's here for the tea and to cut away everything that doesn’t survive scrutiny.
